What can I do with my Biostack?

I purchased Smith and Hawken's Biostack system several years ago and this year when I turned my compost into a new bin, I found that one of the "layers" was so warped that it is unusable. Any ideas as to how I could replace it? I understand that it is no longer made, so I can't buy a section.

I am not very "handy" and don't have anyone to build anything. Maybe I could if it was simple. Should I just toss the remaining bin and buy something new?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

a picture might help us with ideas.
for instance, how warped is warped?
I hope you can post one.

By warped, do you mean the side panels are bent? I take that tier apart into it's 4 sides. Lay in the sun and try to weigh it down with something heavy- bricks or bags of dirt, gallon jugs of water... Maybe the combination of the warmth of sun and the weight would bend them back.

You can use the Biostack with only two tiers, though. I do that a lot. I have 2 Biostacks but sometimes divide into 2 tiers in one stack and 4 tiers in another stack, for different batches of compost.

I haven't done this for a long time, but I am going to try to post some pictures of my Biostack.

Hmmmm.... hard to tell from the pictures, but in the last one it looks like the top tier, right side panel, isn't snapped into the front panel? Did it just come apart, or are you unable to do it because it's bent? It kind of looks like that's all it needs. You might need to stand it on it's flat side to snap that it.

If it really is bent too badly to snap, I'd take that tier apart into it's four separate panels and lay them flat in the sun. Weigh down with something heavy- bricks, gallon jugs of water, bags of soil- and leave them for a couple of warm days. Maybe the warmth of sun and weight will flatten them.

I think Biostacks are great and worth the effort to try to save. I've had mine for several years and not had this problem. Sometimes I do knock corners apart, but they generally snap back easily.

Thanks for your responses. Yeah, it's bent too badly to snap in place. I don't know why it got so warped, but I think I'll try your advice of laying it in the sun and weighting it down. I'm ashamed of the way it looks, but it was under a bird feeder.

Thanks,
Marlene

Has anyone secured chicken wire to the bottom of the Biostack to guard against rodents? How did you attach it?
