Soil pH

I just bought a simple soil test kit, and the pH of my soil reads about 6.0, but as a control, I tested the tap water I used, just by itself, and I get a reading of about 9.0. I guess I need to go get some distilled water, so perhaps I have answered my own question, but does this sound as though the soil pH is extremely low?

RE: Soil pH

Optimal soil pH is in the 6.2 to 6.8 range, so if that soil tgest can be relied on you are very close to optimal. That your tap water tested at 9.0 makes that test questionable because you would not be able to drink water that alkaline without experiencing severe burning.
