Arborvitae planted with gravel at bottom of hole?

Hello,
Wasn't sure what this would technically fall under but we are planting arborvitas at our house and while digging the hold for one of them we realized that there is lots of gravel mixed int the mud at the bottom of the hole. We think the gravel is from when they poured the basement. Any information would be great!!
Thanks!

Where, in relation to your house, are these Aborvitae being planted?
In some places it is common to fill in around the house foundation with stone to help promote drainage, and planting trees there could interfere with that.
