I'm fighting bindweed...

has anyone had any success in getting rid of this curse? I have it in my veggie garden. Roundup doesn't seem to help and right now I have a section of the garden "solarizing". Given the lousy spring we have had, the bindweed thinks I'm giving it a nice warm place to grow. Any magic bullets out there?

Although not a magic bullet, spraying vinegar on the leaves seemed to help. I (crossing fingers) have not had bindweed in my yard for 5 years, after dilligently spraying vinegar on any leaves I found, and of course digging out every tiny bit of root that I could find (to the point of digging up some plants and untangling the bindweed from the plant's roots & then replanting). Good luck!

At some point, you'll learn to live with it.

There is the coffee/beer formula - grab a cup of coffee and head out to the garden and pull bind weed, and then in the afternoon, grab a beer and head out to the garden and pull bind weed.

Heavy mulches help. I like to pull it, when it comes back from the roots in some huge mass of tiny vines, I keep a small spray bottle of diluted 2,4D and Roundup mixture and spray it.

Or just spend some money and buy some of those copper garden plant markers, and label them "Convolvulus arvensis var. Fairy bondage" or something and impress your friends.

I read of somebody who let it grow fairly long, then stuck it in jars of diluted glyphosate (Roundup is the best known brand name) in the fall as temperatures started to drop. The reason for that is that as temperatures start to drop, the bindweed starts pulling nutrients back to the roots for winter storage, so the glyphosate would get pulled back, killing the whole roots. The reason for the diluted solution was so that the leaves would stay alive long enough to soak up more and do real damage.

I used undiluted 24D and diesel fuel mixed when I moved here 44 years ago. I'm just now seeing some small sprigs coming up. The neighbors have it bad and let it go to seed.I wish I wasen't to old to move.

Well, there's some optimism about it...learn to enjoy it??? I guess the coffee/beer/vinegar/timing issues win...I think I'll grab a coffee and head out to the veggie garden to start my day. Thanks everyone for responding.
