I'm attracting critters

Every time I put my compost from the bins on the ground to finish for a couple weeks, critters seem to dig and sift through it looking for a roll or slice of bread still half whole. I was getting upset and thinking about what to do when it dawned on me they are aerating and turning my compost at the cost of a moldy roll. I think I might start putting a piece of bacon or two to keep them coming back.

Har. If there is still visible food bits it probably still belongs in a bin. But the critters may be looking for insects and mice as much as anything else!

One critter that's been visiting my yard lately isn't welcome - the armadillo. Any suggestions on how to get this thing to stop rooting in my beds?

Tropical, Nah the garden is fenced and the compost is on the outside of my dog's range (otherwise he eats the compost), so the critters don't venture into his range, to the plants I put in. Tox, its usually a big bread roll that's still whole, the rest is broke down pretty good....maybe I need soggier bread.. I just wont get upset anymore when they turn the pile for me.

Had a critter venture past the compost pile last night and try helping themselves to the garden....the dog won....so now the question is do I compost the body or leave it for other critters? And now who is going to process the uncomposted bread rolls and turn my compost nightly? I am thinking of marketing my compost... Totally organic and critter turned....or We employee the whole forest when making our compost?? Might have to put a disclaimer though, that says may contain a critter dung. |
