If I took vegetable food scraps, threw them in a food processor/juicer with some water, and poured that it my garden would there be any benefits to the plants?

Absolutely. There is ample evidence that the composting process itself releases a lot of nutrients while it's going on. Some people put food waste in a trench between rows and cover it, others build lasagne beds with layered soil and compostables. Both work well for gardens. You may want to cover the stuff with some kind of mulch or use a shallow trench so as not to draw insects and varmints. It all depends on your conditions and location.

Please let us know how this works for you long term. I know it will improve the soil but it's pretty labor intensive and the novelty wears off after awhile. I know this because I bought a second blender to use only for kitchen veggie scraps and found it was much easier to just dig them in between the plants or put them in my compost pile. You might be more dedicated to such activities than I am tho! *smile* I tend to be as lazy about gardening as possible and it's still a ton of work.

But remember that the food processor uses electricity. One of the reasons for composting is to keep waste out of landfill and avoid transporting it, ie to help the environment. Increasing your electricity usage would counteract that effect. Not to mention your time and the faff of washing the machine every time (which also uses water and fuel).

I just toss the scraps around - wherever there's a bare patch. They disappear pretty quickly, the worms and ants feed on them. Only downside is attracting critters - primarily possums and raccoons here.

Food processors are a pain to take apart and clean, so I don't do that. I just compost them, but I do microwave them, it's is fast and easy with no clean up.

tropical_thought - what's the thinking behind microwaving them if you are going to compost them anyway? Does it serve some purpose?
