Can I add my parrot's papers into my compost?

They are non-color newspapers, with some food scraps and (healthy) parrot poop on them. Is this okay to add to my compost bin?

I think this is the first time we've had this question asked!!

I would.

Hahaha no, not a pirate. Thanks for the quick answer! I was hoping the answer was yes. :)

I'm pretty sure I asked the same about my dove's papers. I dump them in every week. Nancy

When I had (2) birds, I had a box that I would put their paper in and bring outside to a bin. They were stacked in there and I would use those papers for the newspaper layer of lasagna gardens.

Nancy, are you having the same problem I am -- the local paper is using more, and more color. Heck, they even put the obits in color! I think I'm going to have to look around for a paper that doesn't use much colored ink.

Louisianagal, lasagna gardening sounds like a good place for them.

I compost paper with colored ink.

I don't have a problem with colored pages, I have a problem with glossy pages...

Of course thats really only a problem trying to put a fire in the woodstove, the glossy pages don't burn well.

I bet they don't really absorb poo as well either now that I think of it.

I have never heard of that- but I did use to compost my wood shavings from my gerbil tank. Would you need to be worried about bacteria, or anything like that?

If you compost your parrot's papers, keep in mind that at some point in the future, somebody may question whether your parrot was born here.

If your parrot has no plans to run for office, it's probably not a problem.

My son and daughter each got a red-tailed boa recently. The bedding material is coconut coir. I plan on having them dump the used bedding (translated that means full of snake urine) in the compost pile.

If I'm not freaking out about my kids bringing 2 boa constrictors into my house, I'm certainly not going to freak out about a little snake pee in my compost.

I imagine used parrot papers would be similar to chicken droppings and people use them all the time. Just a guess.
