I have a question and I'm not sure where is the appropiate place(forum) to post it...I sprayed with round up a bed that plan to use for flowers, then lay lanscape fabric and mulch with shreded wood chips this was couple days ago,so I was wondering when will it be safe to plant my annuals?? they are getting big and is about time,if it makes any difference I have gerbera daisies, lantana and sweet potato vine, had plan to sneak in a couple of dwarf red okra but I'm not sure how long the round up will be in the soil?any info welcome:)

Roundup won't enter the roots of other plants

Times estimates range from 3 to 14 days after application. Since the poison needs to enter the plant through the leaves, and since any residual in the soil is supposed to rapidly dissipate you might be able to plant that quickly, although I wouldn't plant sooner then 14 days were I to use something like that. Err on the side of caution. |

There is a lot I don't know about gardening, but I do know this. Round-up will not hurt anything that hasn't been sprayed on the greenery itself. I've used it for at least 20 years and it will not kill plants thst were not in the ground when it was sprayed.

I strongly dislike Roundup. Why? I've attached a link that might be helpful. You could have simply sheet mulched and planted immediately.

Your link doesn't mention roundup

And if your problem is with Monsanto, the patent has now expired and others can make glyphosate. A friend told me just the other day that our local farm supply has an off brand way cheaper than the Roundup brand stuff from the big box store. So if you don't like Monsanto, stick it to em!

As soon as I see a rant about Monsanto and/or Roundup specifically, I tend to think that the person has only seen certain documentaries and really have not investigated nor considered the subject with any kind of objectiveness. Glyphosate is manufactured by several different companies now and there are several companies that sell GMO seeds. I use glyphosate products as per the label and have had no issue but I acknowledge the anecdotal issue therein. Lloyd

Landscape fabric? Uh oh...hehe itsybitsy-I used to use that stuff(landscape fabric)until I realized that it was basically sterilizing my soil, As in not allowing any organic matter to decay in the soil preventing any natural composting. When I would tare it up (years later) my soil looked rather sad and dry. Now I only use it when I want to lay decorative rock and not plant much. If I want to actually plant I dont use landscape fabric, only mulch, manure or castings and pine bark. But then again, Im sure Im wrong and someone else will tell you why you should use it...lol

That's very interesting you guys...@ blazeaglory the only reason I bother with the "fabric" is because I was sooo sick of the bermuda monster taking over...

Yes the bermuda monster. Just one seed and your suffering FOR LIFE! Lol Sorry I know. I have one monster under one of my favorite roses that I cannot dig out and it grows wild every year. It looks to be a ton of grass but It all originates from one source too close to the trunk of the rose bush. The sad thing is is my entire front lawn is the dreaded bermuda. My grandparents planted it in the 60's.
