June 2012: What have you fed your compost today?

This past weekend I loaded my never pile with a LOT of fresh cut grass. It's about 155 degrees now :-)

My older pile must be very close to done because I mixed a bunch of grass in but it's just "warm".

20 5-6' flowering Swiss chard plants, 1/2 bag chick start'n gro feed, litter from chick brooder. I wonder how hot that mixture will get. Those Swiss chard plants were monsters!

vegetable scraps, pistachio shells, cherry pits and about 20 flattened mosquito carcasses.
The mosquitos were added at the last minute.

UCG, redskins from 2 kilos of home roasted peanuts, watermelon rinds, fridge science experiments. The corn cooking water went on the plants.

Question: dryer lint in my dryer is a combo of both natural (cotton/wool,etc) and synthetic (whatever the non-100% natural fibers clothes are made of) Wouldn't the synthetic lint be like adding plastic fibers to my pile? I just wondered........

I'll try to do it monthly.

Unless a mod can make a sticky and we just start a "What have you fed your compost today?" thread and keep it at the top.

Can we make sticky's here? Do we have mods?

Compost of the paranoid

Grass clippings, chipped raspberry canes, chipped dead branches, all from my own property. Shredded leaves from my yard and my neighbor's yard. I have a pretty large pile (three+ yards?) of mulch (grass clippings and shredded leaves) left over from last year that needs to be processed, too.

I have a houseplant that dropped many leaves so those got added in along with some dried up garlic scapes, yam peelings, and eggshells! I hope the worms and earwigs have a great dinner :)

Expired Kraft "Coleslaw" dressing and a whole box of chocolate truffles!
