I use my grass clippings in my compost pile the day the grass is cut. When I snag a paper bag of neighbors grass, I either want it to be nice and green; or at least to have that strong ammonia smell.

There must be some kind of correlation between the color of the grass and the remaining nitrogen.

If you let the clippings dry out in the sun, they don't seem too appealing after a day or two.
