Putting moldy stuff in compost pile?

OK, this is probably a dumb question, but is it okay to put stuff in the compost pile that is actually already moldy (i.e. been in the fridge too long)?

Moldy fruit or vegetables? Yes.

Moldy dairy products? Not everybody does (I do)

Moldy cooked food? Not everybody does (I don't usually)

Molds are an integral part if nature's decomposition and recycling process. In fact, healthy soil is full of microscopic fungi that make the whole system work, so they are not generally harmful.

The stuff just has a bit of a head start. Throw it in. :-]

I've never met a mouldy leftover that the tumbler didn't love. I chuck them in.

I agree. Whenever I clean out the fridge, everything goes into the compost.

Sometimes things go moldy inside the compost bucket I keep under the sink before I can get it out to the pile :-)

The molds that develop on foods, fruits, grains, vegetables, uncooked food, cooked food, are the bacteria that are digesting the materials you put in your compost wotking on those materials. I am always surprised by people that think you should not put those materials in your compost when it is the place they need to go.

Moldy = already composting.

Let me just add...there are NO dumb questions. Only dumb answers. Keep asking questions. The more people who compost the better.

I do anything except meat. We call that a green bag! All of the stuff in the back of the fridge that is green and you don't quite remember what it might be! Nancy
