How to use what I can get inexpensively for a raised bed?

Hi all,

I want to fill 16" deep raised beds for a vegetable garden.
The following materials are what I can afford and easily get.

Composted yard waste from the county ( has uncomposted wood chips ).
Pine bark fines.
Aged horse manure with sand ( sand was used to clean the stalls ).
Cow manure.

How would I put these together to make a good raised bed soil?

Thanks
Joe

I am to understand that everything , but the wood chips are composted. If that is the case, then mix everything up & spread in the bed.
I would loosen up the soil under the bed, about 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) to improve drainage.

Ok, but how much of each? What ratio?

Hi Joeworm,
If you have unlimited amount of each product:
33% Composted yard waste from the county ( has uncomposted wood chips ).
33% Aged horse manure with sand ( sand was used to clean the stalls ).
33% Cow manure.
Mix them all up real good....

Then use a 3" layer of your Pine bark fines as a deep mulch for water retention and weed suppression.

Thanks.
Interesting setup you've got there. Those beds look to be at least 24" deep?

Yeah, Plus "double dug" to further accentuate the positive ;-)
You can check out my You-Tube video's on the link below..

Here is a link that might be useful: Watch all 9 short videos on how to build a raised bed that will survive the Tribulation ;-)

All I have is slow dial-up connection so watching the videos isn't an option. Maybe I can check them out at a friends with their high speed connection.
