Those plans are a good starting point, but you should have some thing inside the barrels to mix the ingredients. Such as paddles or something otherwise when you turn it the stuff just slides around the inside without being mixed. Possibly some long bolts or screws or something would work?

I was thinking to build one as well, but the only concern i have is, the the wood rot?(the stand)I was thinking to use pine wood.

I once saw a plan that involved making a high stand similar to this one, only with the can upright. Drilling a hole through a trash can, inserting a pole in one side and out the other. Then use the pole to mount the can off the ground onto the stand. tie the lid to the can, and turn it up side down and back over a few times. Of course you could also just roll it around the yard for free.

My neighbor uses a black plastic 30 gallon trash can and drilled holes around and about it. uses a tiedown to keep the lid on. lays it on the ground and rolls it around. Adds whatever it needs. Sits it in the sun and rolls it on the ground. Compost in two weeks.

Somebody threw this out. The door is too small and it dries out quickly but it does work. I have been adding household wastes (coffee grounds, fruit peels, vegie cuttings, etc) since begining of May and it is still only half full. I add a few handfuls of shredded leaves when I add house stuff. It stays warmish but never gets really hot. On offensive odour at all.

I had the HOT WATER TANK COMPOSTER built about 4 months ago. Everything is breaking down pretty good even though it has been below freezing a lot the past few months. I was wondering if anyone else has built the Hot water tank composter and what you may have added to the inside to get the compost to not roll into compost balls.
