Nettle

I have a pretty big nettle patch and we don't eat much of it past early summer....too many other choice vegetables coming 'round in the garden by then. Every year I usually cut it back and add it to the compost. This year I am trying something different. Cutting it back and using it as mulch...sort of a green manure type use. I'll report back, but anybody have an opinion about this pro or con? Just wondering.
Thanks
Frank

RE: Nettle

The Rodale Institute has been trialing knocking down cover crops so they would form a mulch and reports good success doing that. I have many times mowed the cover crops rather than tilling them in with good results. Nettle is not something I have grown, but there is no reason why it would not work.

Here is a link that might be useful: Cover crops as mulch
