I have an unlimited source of sawdust. I have two 55 gal drums (with holes) that I use as rolling hot composters. I've started making compost tea, including an air pump.
If I use sawdust and 10% wood chips as the main medium, what mixture of pee and tea should I use to provide the right balance?

| Suggest collecting the urine, then diluting with water - to get the moisture content you need. Adding huge bags of coffee grounds if you can get from Starbuck's will help a lot. Envy you the source of sawdust. |

| pee can be used undiluted, i mix it with used water from the house, mix only so i can spread it about more. mix rate around 1/3:2/3 to 50:50. only thing with sawdust it is a brown and be sure it does not come from treated timbers, sawdust can pack tight like grass clippings can, wood shaving ok but again not from treated wood. hope that helps a bit, you'll have to gauge saturation point of using sawdust. we prefer using green type spoilt hay and mushroom compost from the farm. len |

| I wish I had a source for both greens, as well as coffee grounds. I don't, so I doubt I've asked the question before. I'll pass on drinking the compost tea, but the pee will certainly have been made by drinking regular tea. Sounds like if I moisten the sawdust with water, pee, and tea at 1:1:1 I'll be OK, as long as I don't fill the barrels too full, so the stuff moves well when rolled. Thanks, Ken |

| I think you'll just have to try it and see what works well for you. My sense is that a drum of sawdust could absorb a LOT of pee in the process of becoming compost. But I think your 1.1.1 ratio sounds good as a starting point. |

| Have you tried asking your local coffee place for grounds? You'd be surprised how happy most places are to have you cart of their waste. |

| After rereading the above posts, I think you missed the tea joke, Iowa. Allen was suggesting to drink lots of ICED tea, which makes you pee...well anyway, it was funny at the time. :-D |
