I'm growing a small veg garden as well as preparing for morning glory and a venus fly trap I'm growing in pots I'm planning on making some sort of compost mix to use in a layer.
Ive got a pecan tree in the yard and a ton of pecan shells, branches leaves green n brown i've also got a ton of saved eggshells.

I plan to crush it all up and mix it with potting soil some layers into the pot.
How much is too much when making a mix of these types of things?
Also Is it normal to use the stuff mentioned in pots?

Venus flytraps grow in NUTRIENT POOR soil - so no, it would not be normal for those. Potting soil will burn out the roots, and adding more stuff to potting soil would be sure to speed up death. Think I read somewhere where the best growing medium for VFs is a 1:1 mix of pure peat moss and perlite. No tap water either - distilled water instead.

Morning glory also does well in poorer soils - too much nutrition and you'll get leaves, but no flowers.

Make a compost pile with your leaves, pecan shells, egg shells and whatever other greens and browns you've got and use it on your vegetable garden.
