Nitrogen deficiency comparison

Finally got around to taking a picture of the wheat field for 2009. (Got a new camera, old one died. RIP)

We did not put leaves on this field in the late fall of 2008 and in fact stopped putting anything into it on September 15. This allowed the yard trimming materials to be well incorporated into the soil for 6 weeks before freeze up. I also cultivated it in the spring prior to planting only because I knew it was going to rain shortly after I seeded it. Normally we disturb the soil as little as possible prior to planting in the spring to conserve moisture.

As a comparison, here is the same field from the crop of 2007 where we had N deficiency from the leaves incorporated into the field in the fall of 2006.
