a friend read about hugel last year and when he cut down down his garden last fall decided to do his variation of it. he grows a lot of corn so he layered all the garden waste in a pit covered it all with corn stalks and earthed it up. the finished mound was 20x5x3. he used rock dust for the first time this spring. everything grown on the mound is a couple of weeks ahead of the rest of the garden. may try it myself this year-no more grinding compost :)
