Black Knot disease

There is a substantial amount of trees in town infected with this disease and in all likelihood I will be getting some pruned branches brought out during the 'drop off your branches' days.

Been searching trying to get a definitive answer on composting this stuff but seems half say aye and half say nay. Most recommend not using it as mulch but I had no intention of using the chips as mulch anyways so that isn't a problem.

I'm thinking hoping high temperature aerobic composting combined with a lengthy curing period will destroy the spores but I'd sure like to find some data I could hang my hat on.

Anyone know much about this stuff?

Lloyd

Have you asked on the tree board?

Which trees are supposed to have this disease? Black knot is a serious problem with Prunes and Cherries.

Contacted a local arborist. According to him, my high heat composting method will destroy the spores. All is good.
