Tumblers are a bit more difficult to manage than a bin or pile, but it sounds like yours is doing A-OK so far.

It probably heated up because of the large mass of coffee grounds, which are actually a weak green. Probably if you had all those kitchen scraps to add at once, it would have heated up too, but small daily additions break down more slowly and don't allow it to heat up. That's OK though, it all leads back to compost, hot or cold. :-]
