| I have a joraform jk 125 compost tumbler. (By Homeowner's Association bylaws, compost piles are prohibited, but elevated tumblers are not).
The recommended carbon source for this tumbler is compressed wood pellets (it is mostly handling kitchen wastes) There are very few alternatives available in this area (not even many trees to get leaves from, so browns are rather hard to come by). My question is this:

| Pine is known as a softwood because it is less dense then hardwoods are, so given a choice I would opt for the pine pellets. |

| They will both turn into sawdust when moisture hits them, so the cost is the major factor. Which is cheaper for the given weight? Use that one. You can also use shredded paper as part of the moisture-absorbing and C/N balancing materials. |
