Rising off the pile Held my breath, thought it was mold No, no, wait! That's steam! (When I went to turn my pile, I thought there were clouds of mold spores blowing off through the air. It grossed me out, and I didn't want to inhale them, but then I stuck my hand near, and realized that it was, in fact, steam! And then I squealed like a little girl, and danced around in my yard. I wasn't sure my 18-gallon plastic tote would be able to heat up, much less produce steam on an almost 80 degree day, so that was way, way exciting! I did hit one patch that didn't smell so good, but on the whole, it just smells kind of... earthy?) |

Mother Nature makes composting look sooo easy Old pros can do that She's been at this gig For countless eons of time Watch her well and learn simplify [times three] observe, listen and practice Her subtle lessons Dont sweat the small stuff. Couldn't be easier or harder; or neither |

I suspect Mother Nature is somewhat amused by compost wackos. All this talk about "greens" and "browns" and UCG's is beside the point. She smiles, though, and thanks us for feeding her good soil. She knows we mean well. But she rolls her eyes at all our calculations. "Pile it up and wait." Claire |
RE: Compost Haiku
| | |
haiku thing is fun Starting to count sylables It is easier than Balancing comp mix For instance can you tell brown From green which is which? OK calm down, Barb Tis not that complicated Thirty C, one N Not complicated? Are you a simple clownster? Worse yet, charlatan? World peace easier Than unanimity on Composting methods Be nice, composters The Blind Men and The Elephant Were adamant, too |
