| Rising off the pile Held my breath, thought it was mold No, no, wait! That's steam! (When I went to turn my pile, I thought there were clouds of mold spores blowing off through the air. It grossed me out, and I didn't want to inhale them, but then I stuck my hand near, and realized that it was, in fact, steam! And then I squealed like a little girl, and danced around in my yard. I wasn't sure my 18-gallon plastic tote would be able to heat up, much less produce steam on an almost 80 degree day, so that was way, way exciting! I did hit one patch that didn't smell so good, but on the whole, it just smells kind of... earthy?) |
