Hello,

I just recently bought a blower/vacuum/mulcher and was wondering is it worth it to vacuum the dead leaves and shred them to make mulch? Can it be any leaves or grass clippngs? When do you apply it to to fruit trees or roses or other flowers? Sorry if it seems a dumb question its just I have never done it before and it seems the people on is website know a lot regarding this stuff. Thanks in advance to any who replT

Absolutely it is worth it. Why else did you buy the machinery? Yes, it can be any leaves or grass clippings and you can put it around anything you grow.

I would mulch whenever I have mulch to mulch with. It doesn't matter when you do it. If the leaves need clearing up do the mulching then. If you don't want to spread the mulch you could pile the leaf/grass mix into a compost heap and spread that when you feel like it.

Well the leaf blower I bought has a vacuum/mulch attachment and never had one before. Thanks for the info I will be trying it out soon.

As a general rule of thumb mulches can be applied anytime although the best time is before your plants need that mulch.
Since mulches aid in soil moisture retention be sure that soil has been well watered before mulching. Since mulches aid in suppressing unwanted plant growth ("weeds") be sure the soil is as free of them as possible, or there is a sun blocking barrier over them. Since most mulches can supply organic matter to the soil over time be sure the soil you are covering has enough OM to support the Soil Food Web can be active.

I put mulch on my plants when I plant them, that way they will be isolated from the extreme heat...
