A couple of years ago I purchased 20 pounds of fescue seed & didn't need all of it so I saved the remainder in kitty litter buckets but when I opened them the seeds had gotten moldy. Can I compost this seed now without it sprouting & ruining my whole set-up and if so, is it green or brown?

.. Spread the seeds on the lawn? Anything that sprouts will be fine and those that don't will eventually compost in place. Most seeds are high in protein so I'd say green. two cents

Moldy seeds indicate they were stored someplace with too high a moisture level so those seeds may not be viable any more and most likely would not germinate and grow in your compost. Seeds, the beginning of all life, have everything necessary to germinate and grow until this new plant can utilize sunlight to manufacture nutrients needed by the roots to continue growth, so they would be a "green" for composting.
