We have our block party tonight and I am wondering if I should just come out of the closet as a wacko and say, yes, I am the one stealing your leaves every Monday at the crack of dawn. I was "busted" last fall by a woman who asked what I was doing. She didn't care in the end, but it kind of broke my collecting mojo, as well as the 5 am silence...

Yes, I would introduce myself as the neighborhood leaf thief. I would also ask them to save their rotten Halloween pumpkins, gourds & decorative hay bales for me. Maybe you should have business cards made up & ask people to give you a call when they have leaves or other items for you. Another plus: by coming out of the closet, you may find a neighbor who can help you in other ways. Is a neighbor a produce manager somewhere ? Does someone have access to large amounts of shredded office paper ? Have a good time & let us know what you decide to do & how it goes - Laura

Once you 'come out', be prepared to be the recipient of many, ummm, gifts. People are now driving out to the farm to drop off kitchen scraps. Not that this is a bad thing. ;-) Lloyd

I hope that your local paper will run a 'human interest' story about your block party ....If not, maybe you or another participant can write a community forum story/commentary. And by all means, report back to us on results of your confessions. Sounds like fun.

Well, we got another kind of confessions, found out about someone who is on the sex offender registry. So at that point, the conversation because a bit too heavy for leaf collecting talks. There's always next year...
