| If I were to use the black plastic bags to compost my weeds would it kill the weed seed. My compost pile is cold all the time. It never warms up. Should it be covered with plastic?
I compost the leaves & kitchen scraps and turn several times a year and in spring it is ready to use. But I have such a large amount of weed, how can I make use of this wonderful green plant? gmom |

| Tear off the seed heads and toss in regular pile. |

| As long as the "weeds" do not have any seeds composting them is no problem. If there are any seeds you can much more easily remove the seeds and then put plants into the compost pile then you could messing around with plastic bags. |

| Also, if you have weeds like running grasses and things with thick, fleshy roots, just toss them on the bare ground or a slab of hot concrete and let them die in the sun, then toss them in to the compost pile. The smaller seeds tend to rot in the compost pile, so don't bother removing them with tweezers or anything. Try to chop off the major seed heads and those with large seeds, and add them to a black garbage bag. When full, seal and put in trash or take to landfill. Sue |
