| Did anyone else watch that show on Prince Charles' garden in Highgrove? I was so jealous of their compost, they have their own stables to get horse manure from. All three stages of my compost pile could be swallowed completely by one of theirs with room left over. Of course, the same could be said of my garden ;oP
Needless to say, I was impressed and am feeling very envious. |

| Keep an eye on what's going on in your area, and watch for horse, goat, sheep and alpaca events. County fair? Anyway, get hold of management and ask if you could collect manure, after hours or after the event. A friend of mine did the annual arranging for a traveling circus, and they put all the manure in a dump truck, then delivered and dumped it on his property. Sue |

| That's what you call a compost addict. You don't care about the castle, title or money. You just want the horse sh*t. |

| I was razzed (by my wife) for a long time after inquiring after the circus came to town, whether I could have the elephant manure. They were glad to oblige. I just had to show up on the morning they were packing up, pull in my trailer, and they even used their front-end-loader to pile on as much as it would hold (and they had a lot left over). That stuff lasted a long time as it was added to my compost process and eventually my garden. |

Circus??!! The Zoo here sales the manure every year. I have not used it, but someone hauls it away every year. |

| A few folks in the neighborhood started keeping chickens for eggs. Chicken manure seems to be regarded by some as superior to horse manure for the general purpose gardener and compost pile. Some of the chicken raising folks may not realize the value of the residue. And one rooster lets everyone within a block know which fenced lot has the chickens! This year, as my dog aged and slowed down, we walked around our block instead of going further. So this fall, the brown bags of leaves appeared in my driveway, instead of past years when I ventured out and swiped them. Also, even in a average suburban neighborhood, people throw out a lot of stuff. I collected a new tackle box, two weight bars w few plates, a small grill better than the one I purchased the previous day, and a Echo trimmer that took only half an hour to get running. |

| Even better are the royal stables in Buckingham Palace. The horses are bedded down with shredded government documents instead of straw ... and the paper/poop/pee combo is hauled off to be composted afterwards. |

tropical thought thank you for the show. I enjoyed the garden as much as the proper English digging in a great compost pile. The gardens like High Point are a sight to see, many generations of gardener have lived & died, working these grand garden. |
