Yea, just throw your seeds in the composted manure and many will thrive. Pumpkin seeds are very hardy and frequently survive the composting process. While you are there, take a few pails of composted manure home for your beds and gardens. (flower beds that is)

I'm sure they would be fine. My step father had a large pile of horse manure along with a lot of grass and dirt and kitchen scraps that every year would have pumpkin and I think squash would grow in it voluntarily. If he needed dirt or compost out of the pile he would just chop off a vine to get to it and pull out what he needed and the pumpkins just kept growing.

Did you ever pay attention to the pumpkins themselves? Were they big?
Its good to know I can plant them this way. Now I just to get permission to do it. =)

WE grow big pumpkins for the kids, not contest level stuff, but still get them big enough that they're almost impossible to humanly pick up. I'll build a compost pile this summer, maybe 3' high continually composting down as the year goes along, and transplant the pumpkins into what's left of the pile next spring. Works pretty good.

I planted mine in a section off of the side of the alley where leaves from my massive lilac bushes pile up each year and its worked just great so far .

Many decades ago my mothers uncles would dig holes in the garden and fill them with detritus in the fall before frost and heap the dirt back over the holes. In the spring they would plant watermelons, pumpkins, perhaps some other things in they "hills".

Recently I watched an old Italian movie where some old peasant was showing his granddaughter how to to the very same thing for tomatoes.
