.. Not at that price. Besides, I want something I can chuck a whole orange or avocado into. I get a lot of fruit drop. The video doesn't convince me that a whole orange will go through that thing. I'd have to halve or quarter first and after paying over a hundred bucks, that doesn't cut it. With only a little bit of patience on the compost cycle and I just chuck whole fruit into the compost bin. I do like the hand crank part though. two cents (cheap) .. |

Something for those with far more money then they know what to do with but not needed by anyone.

I actually liked it much more than I would have thought. The price is a bit much but it seemed to be sturdy enough - I would buy it as a wedding present for a fairly close relative, but I am a bit cheap, I like my Saturdays and didn't want that overpriced piece of chicken anyway. If you like it, you might want to get it soon. I watched the video and encouraging 5 year olds to use it might be a bit much - even if it might (doubtfully) be fine for one kid with two hands imagine the fun that two kids with four hands could have! I am sure that it is far less dangerous than most things in the kitchen and most children would never have a problem, but... Lloyd. your salad idea might be a marketing angle they should try. Her kitchen scraps look much nicer than mine and up until the point that she was running her hands through the stuff, it looked ok. In my experience trying to make compost on a micro scale is making it far harder than it needs to be. It is certainly understandable if you have a very limited space (or material), but if you have a bit of room, devoting some of it for a larger composting area is a good idea, it is just easier.

Yet another plastic gadget that amounts to a solution looking for a problem.

I can by a tractor like Lloyd for that kind of money! (can't I?)

no. because i already have something like that with less work. it's called the blender. we have all types as well from hand cranked to powered. idk why we got so many we just do. i am the only person who composts in my home and im the youngest child in my family 19 years old. no one in my house hold even composts yet alone knows i compost so i just dig in the trash throw all the waste in a 5 gal bucket keep the lid on and done. couple days later it gets moldy it's that simple i chuck in whole fruits if im lazy. the price for one of those is just too expensive as well. i rather cut up fruits and vegetables by hand then use that.

I own one of these green cycler's and love it. Have been composting for more than 20 years and previously used my blender or food processor or just cut stuff up with a knife. But, generally we (two kids and me) just threw everything into the pile and WAITED. I'm really lazy about managing my pile but am desperate for compost come summer. ha. My blender made stuff too runny and was a pain in the rear to use and clean. But this is already on my counter, looks good and works great. Good idea to use it for making salads...or salsa! |

A good idea for those who favor products and gadgets over a little understanding of how composting works. For the same money ($120 to $150 it appears), one can buy a compost thermometer, compost fork, and a lot of hardware cloth to make a couple large bins.

I have the compost thermometer, compost fork, and hardware cloth bin. Received my Green Cycle about 2 weeks ago. I do like what it can accomplish and am happy with it so far.. It did take a little while to get the product to market though..

I'm fairly new to composting and I recently purchased a Green Cycler. I love it. It's made the learning curve so much easier for me. This product makes me feel like there is no way to NOT be successful in my composting efforts. It's extremely simple to use the hand crank, and I feel like the product's components are very sturdy and strong. I have three kids at home who practically fight over who gets to shred the day's food scraps. And in response to one of the comments listed above, the Green Cycler DOES handle avocado seeds very well! I'm very excited that the Green Cycler has caused my children to get involved in my household's composting efforts. They are learning at a young age just how important it is to NOT waste food scraps!

Well if it can shred an avocado pit, it can't be all bad. As my momma used to say, "To each his own, said Charles as he kissed the cow." :-]
