Well, if it were 100 years ago, you'd cut down the redwoods and make a bunch of money on the wood, and then grow grain until the soil washed away (not long!) and everybody would think you were smart.

Yeah, there are plenty of people stupid enough to sell mature timber.

My grandfather toward the end of his life sold off the mature southern pine and oak on about ten acres. The outfit never gave him the second half of the money. The logging business is pretty much gangsterism.

I am totally jealous that you have a cabin in the redwoods. :-] Mine is just in oak forest that was logged in the 60s or 70s. Not to sound like I'm ungrateful though, I know it's more than most anyone one the planet has.

Tox, my parents bought the place in 1956 for $2500 with 3 lots! I learned to walk there, then had to re-learn how to walk when we moved to Santa Rosa where everything was FLAT! I kept tipping over!
