Composting on top of a garden bed

I got an idea of putting a compost heap directly on a bed from someone close by!
We have several raised beds (8) and this sounds like the greatest! It will work great throughout the winter!
I haven't torn things out of the garden yet, but the squash bed is almost done, so we put one teir of a compost bin right in the middle!

That has been done before and it works great. Saves time and energy hauling the compost from over there to over here.

it is even better if you bury the material instead of laying it on top. Lay wood chips on top.

I don't have a lot of digging space cause we have hardware cloth about 5" down. Besides, raking it out next spring sounds easier than digging! ;) Nancy
