| I'm fairly new to gardening and composting and was wondering if some of the 'toxic' plants are still able to go in the compost bin without causing any problems.
eg, Euphorbia Tithymaloides. Things like Juglone (from walnuts) are toxic to other plants but (from what I read) will breakdown after a few months. I'm wondering if plants that are toxic to humans will breakdown in the compost without leaving any toxins behind? Thanks |

| Some will, some won't. It depends on the toxin |

| And it may or may not be important depending on why you're asking. If the question is purely academic, fine, and I will echo kimmsr's answer. If you are concerned about plant toxins coming back onto your plate by using the compost on the garden, generally you shouldn't have to worry about it. The only exception might (*might*) be if the majority of the compost pile is made up of some known toxic plant. This would be a rare situation I would think. |

| The plant in question is the Euphorbia Tithymaloides and it would only be a small portion of what's in the bin. I myself wouldn't imagine there would be any problem because it should all breakdown anyway. Thank you both very much. |

| Compost it, just don't eat the compost before it's "done." |
