| I know this is off topic but I am just reading up on the storm potential for the northeast. Stay safe everyone.

I'm in the Dirty South myself, but I have family and friends all up in the path of Sandy! Hunker down!

I'm on the outer edges of a huge storm here in SE MA on the coast, so we'll hopefully just get nasty nor'easter conditions. Storm surge coupled with astronomical high tide may cause beach erosion. The trees are busily dropping their leaves so that will lessen the wind load, allowing trees to stay upright (the way trees should stand, not horizontal to the ground and on top of structures or people). It'll be much worse in the mid-Atlantic, assuming Sandy doesn't change her mind and make landfall farther north. Thanks for the good wishes.

I canned 8 quarts of water and chlorinated 17 gal more in a couple of 1/2 gal jars and a bunch of food-grade buckets with lids. Got batteries yesterday, going to fill up on gas and get spare propane tank filled tonight when we take the kids to YMCA party. Hope Halloween isn't canceled 2 yrs in a row. Of course we have plenty of canned goods. DH just cleaned the gutters and we'll set the rain barrels back up so we have water to flush with. Half the leaves I got Thurs are shredded and spread, with coffee chaff and covered with burlap. The last dozen bags are set inside the 3 compost bins so they won't blow away (and hopefully will keep the compost from getting soaked). Manure piles are covered - DH went out to put more rocks on them. Just have to get a couple rocking chairs off the porch, move the trash cans and wheelbarrow into the garage tomorrow and I think we're all set. Might have to look into buying a generator if this is going to be an annual thing...

Our hatches are battened, here in NJ.Checked the downspouts, put lots of stuff in the shed, and are now just hoping for the best. Thank goodness a lot of the leaves are already down - that should save us from some of the tree loss we had last year. Good luck, everyone!

Take care everyone who is in the path of this storm.
