A search for vegetable fiber

I am looking for decayed vegetable fiber to mix into rock garden soil, like peat or leaf mold. Every single rock garden guide recommends mixing it in, but I just cannot find it anywhere.

How do people make rock gardens? Is there any way of getting this vege fiber or something similar?

You can make your own. Below is a link with a desecription and explanation. I've also seen it sold in garden centers/nurseries.

Vegetable fiber is found in grass, brush, wood chips, leaves, either green or dried, garden refuse like tomato vines, sunflower stalks, and raspberry canes, garden produce like beans and squash, paper, and cotton. I'm sure that I have missed something-seaweed? Most people like to compost the items above in a pile, before adding them to soil. The composting process gives bacteria and fungi a chance to consume the lignins that hold the fibers together. Materials that have been through the composting process are more easily mixed with the existing soil, and they hold more moisture than un-composted materials.
