GardenWeb needs your feedback!

Hi everyone,

As you may have noticed, we've been sprucing up the site a bit. Among other things, we've added new ways to upload photos and email notifications of post replies. We are still cleaning out cobwebs and weeding some areas of the site, but we are also working on some bigger projects like a better search engine (yay!) and a mobile app. We'd also like to get some feedback from you. What enhancements or additions would you like to see? What do you love? What do you hate? Think big and small!

We can't promise the moon, but please know that we will read and consider every one of your ideas and suggestions. We appreciate your loyalty and dedication to our site and we know how important your community is to you. Help us make it even better!

Please use this post to offer your feedback. But, as always, you are welcome to contact me directly by clicking on my profile page.

Best regards,

Tamara Amey

The photo tag behind post thread is cool. Good job.

I really enjoy Gardenweb and the great variety of forums.

About the only thing I can suggest is, it would be nice to have an easy (clickable) way to report spam posts. There aren't all that many, but I sure like pulling the trigger on them when they show up.

I hate when I click on a post and go and read it, when I hit back, it takes me all the way back to the beginning of the original page and then I have to rescroll to where I was. Not that big of a deal but it would save a lot of time being that I check in on many of the forums. Thanks!!

RE: GardenWeb needs your feedback!

Thanks very much for asking this question. It's a great question, and I'm sure it's much appreciated. You and your colleagues at GardenWeb do a great job running GardenWeb.

My suggestion concerns I.P. information. Although there are no clearly marked moderators, there do appear to me to be some members who are moderators, or at least have access to other members' IP Numbers. Whether these persons are called "moderators" or something else within your circle of management, I do not know.

I have every confidence that individuals at your high level of the GardenWeb company are very responsible, and are capable of using that I.P. information properly and very responsibly. However, I can guarantee you that there are some moderators at lower levels of the organization who do not use that IP information as responsibly as the higher-ups. So I do not believe moderators at the lower level should have access to the IP numbers of members.

Incidentally, I doubt these lower level individuals are paid by GardenWeb, so I believe they should not be given access to other members' IP numbers. They are not as responsible as the paid employees of GardenWeb.

Keep up the great work. And let's make GardenWeb even better by *limiting* sensitive IP information to only paid employees of the company.

Thanks again for running GardenWeb so well.

RE: GardenWeb needs your feedback!

I should have included some explanatory information in my post above.

For those who may not know, I.P. stands for Internet Protocol. Whenever you surf the web, you're downloading text and photos to your computer. So your computer needs an IP Number (also called IP Address) so the photos and text know where to go. There are millions of computers on the web after all. Whenever your computer goes online onto the internet, it's assigned an IP Address / Number which looks something like this:

123.45.678.90

The IP Number many times has a letter-based equivalent, looking something like this:

90.oadar-ri.verizon.net

You may get a new IP everyday, or you may have the same IP for a month or longer, depending on how your internet service provider works (Verizon, Clear, Sprint, AT&T, etc.)

Most of the other forums have the ability to edit a posting after posting. In case you want to reword or forgot something.

I'm a big fan of gardenweb; I visit almost daily.

My only complaint is that silly ad at the top of the page that expands. I always forget about, then scroll down to read, and then as the ad expands and contracts, I have to scroll up and back down.

I don't mind ads, but I find that little "blip" annoying.

greenbeans, unless you enjoy ads, there's tools that mean you'll never have to experience them again.
Download 'adblock'; it works on most browsers.

I love Gardenweb and it's almost the first thing I check each morning. You do a good job!

Can't upload photos from Photobucket anymore and really miss doing so. If you could make it easier to download to you from Picassa, it would be a great gift. Really great.
Thank you.

RE: GardenWeb needs your feedback!

I would like to know why almost EVERY time I click into a forum or a thread, change forums or pretty much anything, I get a DNS error notice and I have to refresh and wait for everything to come back up. This includes posting.
I don't get this on other area I visit with my computer. With slow satelite anyway, this makes perusing the garden web very time consuming! Nancy
P.S. It happens so often DNS look up error is now one of my "most visited" on my computer!

Hi everyone!

You asked and we listened. Today we are very excited to be debuting our newest feature -- post editing! To use this feature, go back to the post you wish to correct and you'll find the link under the 'My Clippings' links on the right side of the page.

I want to give a special shout out to all the testers who tried to break the editing tool. ;) Your feedback was insightful and invaluable. Thank you!

You may have also noticed that we adjusted the login cookie awhile back so that you should not have to login repeatedly.

Stay tuned -- we have more cool things in the works!

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Best regards,
Tamara
