Cypress tree cuttings (small) -- OK as mulch?

The neighbors behind our house have a row of tall Cypress trees right up against our back fence. When the trees are trimmed, many of the cuttings fall into our garden along that fence. I toss out the bigger pieces, but I'm wondering if the small pieces (1-2" and smaller) are OK to leave on the soil as much. We don't like that the cuttings from their trees fall into our yard, so I'd like to make lemonade out of this situation if possible. :-)

sure it would work fine as a mulch. There have been a few complaints I've read about cypress mulch over the years. One is that it is highly resistant to breaking down. Some may consider that a benefit.

Most all of the concern about Cypress mulches have to do with harvesting and not using this as mulch because harvesting of Cypress is not a sustainable practice. Because Cypress is naturally resistant to rot some few people do not think it should be used as mulch because it would not feed the soil as fast as many other woody mulches.

I would certainly use a 'windfall' like that as mulch.

Thank you for your replies.

I don't intend to use it as a thick layer and definitely not the only layer of mulch. If it is OK to leave a thin sprinkle of them in place, that will save me lots of raking and I'll enjoy the "windfall". I'll cover it with a thicker layer of other mulch anyway.
