| So I don't expect this to go as "viral" as my GMO in the food supply post, but in any case, it made me chuckle. So I had a weird week due to some subcontracting I had to do in India. I actually went to work (5 minutes away) at 1 and 3 in the morning two days. The day I went at 3 am, I took the little highway access road to make it quickly from one avenue to the other. Luckily, my eyes had opened enough to see a big round object in the middle of my lane. Since it was so late and no traffic, I was able to easily swerve it. So I took care of business and went back home for coffee and breakfast at 6. When I drove the same route at 7:30, back to the office, I saw that the "object" had been moved to the shoulder and as I drove closer to it in the early morning light, I saw that it was a HUGE GARBAGE BAG FULL OF LEAVES!
Unfortunately, I was going about 45 in traffic, so no way to stop and get it. But I said, well, at lunch, if it is still there, I will try to get it. The lane where it was ran actually right along the interstate (even though it was access lane), so it was a bit sketchy. Sure enough, when I came back through at noon, there it was in front of me. So I slowed down, put on my flashers and parked. I checked my mirrors and hopped out quickly and in front of my car, hoping to not become one of those "stupidest people" videos by being killed on the side of the road, in pursuit of compost! But as you can tell, I was blessed with more luck than brains. I managed to snag that bag, I thought about putting it in the trunk, but it was too big. So into the backseat. As I made my way back to the driver's seat, an 18 wheeler came flying by in the other lane and kind of freaked me out. But well, death won't stop a true compost wacko! Just don't tell dw what I did. |

| I had to re-read that! I thought you were going to bring the bag back from India! Now THAT would truly be a whacko! Nancy |

| I also thought that you were in India. I was there in the Peace Corps (1970 - 1972) Times have changed...but there is no way a plastic bag would stay in the middle of the road for hours. Abject Poverty is an incubation chamber for scavengers. |

| Haha!!!! I'm not the ONLY one!!!! We live in SWFL. Not many trees in our town either. Last year we were driving by a condo complex that had several large bags of Florida Oak leaves and we stopped and threw one in the car on our way by. I know if anyone saw us they would have said "what kind of WACKO wants a bag of leaves???" I also went to my neighbor's house and asked if I could rake up her leaves and take them home. LOL.... I got exercise and compostables and she got free leaf removal.. |

| Oh, no I see the confusion. I was a bit tired when I wrote that! What I meant was that I had hired some subcontractors in India this week and they screwed some things up so I had to be on their schedule here in Missouri. Cheers! |

| I've been keeping my eyes peeled for piles of leaves too. I scored 2 truck loads of grass clippings a week ago. I was driving home a couple weeks ago with a load of horse manure in my truck and I stopped to shovel a recently deceased raccoon out of the middle of the road. For half a second I wondered how he might compost. He was quite fat and, I imagine, close to an optimal mixture of C and N. |
