Creating a no-turn pile; use for heating?

I have a couple of related questions. We are in the Chicago area. So, access to the compost pile in the dead of winter on weekdays (after work) is impractical. It's dark and the path to the community garden is not shoveled. I'm wondering if anyone has experience creating a compost pile that is passively aerated. I was thinking of using coils of perforated 4" landscape hose and / or perforated PVC pipe, creating "chimneys" with the latter.
I was also thinking of using the heat of the pile for root zone heating by circulating water through plastic tubing that would run through the pile and then into raised garden beds that we have in our unheated greenhouse.
Thanks!
