My recipe is going down to the organic place a couple miles away that offers up to 2 gallons every Tuesday (that can be diluted X5= 10 gal per week to use in my raised beds! I hand water with the diluted stuff and water 2 beds per week with it, so each bed gets a shot about every 3-4 weeks. Nancy

Why don't you make your own Nancy?Id love to see a comparison grow by you,take two identical plants,water one with tea and the other with just plain old water.

Maybe I'll give that a shot! It will be much easier in my toned down winter garden than a summer one! I think I'll do it in my raised up beds for lettuce and greens. The only problem is that I don't know how to post pics! I can report by size, though! Nancy

Dr. Elaine Ingham developed the concept of compost tea and many others have stepped in to make the process much more complicated then it needs to be.

Kimmsr, Elaine Ingham is an 'expert' on compost tea. Attended one of her workshops in CA and observed the process and results. However, the article in Fine Gardening you linked is an old recipe for tea. Dr. Ingham no longer recommends using molasses. Check out her website soilfoodweb.com.
I know tea folks like chuckiebtoo still use molasses and report good success.
So, go with whatever works do you.

She uses humic acids instead,Which would be really good also.Might try her recipe also this spring.Maybe do a comparison,molasses one batch and humic acid in the next.Then feed two identical plants to see the difference.

Molasses is the best of the two foods and really one of if not the best food. Here is the problem, it can be too good of a food source. What does that mean? Well if your compost has E.. coli and/or Salminella in it molasses is also a excellent food for them too and you could get there numbers high enough to cause serious health problems.

One thing to remember if your tea has a foul odor DON"T USE IT. Compost tea should always have a mild earthy odor during and after brewing. If it's ever foul don't take your chances with it.
