Compost Question

As I was doing some "maintenance" on my garden I left an open bag of bonemeal out on a day when it rained and within a few days the bonemeal got a "rotten" kind of smell.
Is it OK to put this in my compost? Not much left-- only about 2-3 cups.
Any thoughts?
All advice is appreciated
Thanks
George

Been there, done that. :O) What I did was take the 'lump' and incorporate it in the soil around the plants which didn't receive any. This was in the fall too and the plants were quite perky come the spring. Bulbs which flower in the spring will love a treatment this time of year, but I also did perennials.

I would suspect that in the compost it will dissipate into nothingness and you'd get more bang out of your buck from placing it in the gardens.

Yeah throw it in just try to spread it up or water in down to a tea.

Wow. Thanks for the quick replies. Based on what you've both said I may do a little bit of each. Thanks for the advice!
