Burlap to deter critters digging for worms

Critters (skunks, cats, and/or racoons) are digging in my new lasagna beds. They almost dug up a plant.

I'm considering covering the bed with burlap, and planting straight through the burlap, then covering the burlap with mulch. Would the burlap decompose while it deters the animals from digging? I would want it to eventually decompose, as the animals don't dig in the older planted beds.

On the moist ground, burlap will decompose in no time. But I'm not so sure it will deter animals from digging. If they are persistant, it might make a bigger mess.

If you get of natural fibers, Jute or Sisal, it will be digested. I have seen burlap made of synthetic fibers that probably will not.

You could try the odor deterrents too. I could just see a critter snagging some of the burlap and going crazy trying to get through and pull it up = potential big mess.

I know what kimmsr is talking about.
It is not burlap, it is woven plastic fiber, you do not want that.
Burlap will last 6 months outside.
I get it free by the truck load & use it for mulch & to suppress most weeds.
Some burlap bags has synthetic string holding it's seams together. This will not rot, but it can be removed easier then a bed of weeds.
