Sweet score!!!

Yesterday I stopped at the grocery store to pick up some items that I still needed for Thanksgiving dinner. When I was walking out to my car, I noticed these very dark bales in the bed of a pickup truck. I walked over and looked at the bales, and it was baled leaves. While I was loading groceries in the car, the owner of the truck come out, so I ran over and asked him about the bales of leaves (I had never seen them baled before). He told me that a guy he works with was paid to bale 3 acres of leaves for a doctor in town. They raked them all into a windrow, then came through with the baler. He said it was very fast way to get the job done and that his friend had made tons of money on the job. I asked what they were planning to do with the bales and he said you can have as many as you want, we have no idea what to do with them. He took my name and number and is going to call me Tuesday to meet me to exchange as many as my jeep will hold. These are very nice, tightly packed bales of leaves. They will be so much easier to store! I have a very leafy yard, so I am very rarely in a hurt for browns to add to my pile, but I cannot pass these up. I have a very large compost pile that will hold two bales side by side, and stacked about 4 high. I can only imagine the leaf mold I will have someday!!! I also told him that I may be very interested in having him do my yard. We are supposed to talk about it next week. Problem is, now I am looking around for a hay baler....

Sweet indeed!! Would love to know the size and weight of the bales - and how they were tied. You should either borrow a truck or rent a trailer and get tons of them.

Jealous, but happy for you, Rosie

Can you snap a few pics, I'd love to see how they are packed and tied.

Thx

They are the same size as a large bale of wheat straw (rectangular). I will update with pictures after I get them picked up on Tuesday. I thought the guy who did that was pure genius. What really amazed me, when the guy drove away, was that none of the leaves were coming out!

That is a sweet score. I'm lucky that I have enough leaves for my needs without having to move to an outside source.

That's too bad Norma. I found the video of the community that bales 'em, was it this size of bale?
