| After receiving my new compost tumbler, and hearing that nitrogen is needed, I did the inevitable (for me) Plenty of browns and greens are in the tumbler. I had a bunch of nitrogen pellets left over from years past and threw in about 2 cups...pretty little white pellets in a bunch of what better turn out to be compost... I am getting an ammonia odor when opening the door. I feel like I shouldn't have done this..Should I toss it all and try again, only this time without the nitrogen ? I have a much larger compost pile in the back, 1- 1/2 years till completion. I can put it there.and it's done. |

| Add some more high Carbon material. There is no good reaon to throw out what you already have just because of the ammonia (escaping excess Nitrogen) smell. |
