i had 2 walnut trees cut down at the end of my garden 2 years ago. this spring i want to start building the soil in the garden spot by using horse manure to start then planting a green manure crop like oats, then cut it down. then plant oats and buckwheat. cut it down, and replant oats again.and add manure to that, and till it under. my question will the oats and the buckwheat tolerate the juglone. if not what can i use? Thanks David

RE: green manure

I have not noticed a problem with Buckwheat being suppressd by Juglone, but have not used Oats at all. Buckwheat has allelopathic properties of its own.
