| Has there been any research into the type of dyes, metals etc used in wrapping paper that might be carried on into the environment/garden if used in compost? |

| I've not seen much more than non science discussions on composting wrapping paper, some for and some against. If care is used in unwrapping the paper could be recycled as wrapping paper again, but if ripped apart that would not be possible. Simply because of the probability of metallic inks I don't think I would compost any. |

| I wouldn't, either. For the same reason as Kimmsr. |

| I bought paper this year that was 100% recycleable, compostable. It seems that enough people are interested in it so the manufacturers are making it available. |

Momstar, That's interesting. Are the colors bright. I use it to wrap all of the pictures on my walls (as if they were hanging presents), so I kind of need bright and shiny. Not sure you can get that without the lead. |

| Not shiny. Pretty paper and very thick. Didn't notice if they had shiny or not in the store. |

Mom, I'll have to look into that next time I buy (which won't be for at least another year. CostCo run this year). Nancy |

| I have never used much wrapping paper, and this year my teenage son said not to bother wrapping his presents, which was just fine by me. Largish pieces are re-used and the rest goes in paper recycling. I use a lot of different types of paper in the compost and gardening but wrapping paper is not one of them. |

Terrene, I'm a bit jealous. My boys are 20 and 17, and they still want it all wrapped. Everything. Even the stocking stuffers, like toothbrushes, gum, socks, favorite deoderant ... you get the picture. And, really, I guess I still love doing it. No ... I don't guess, I know that I still love doing it. I admit it. ;) |
