 o
Purpose & benefits of CURBING perimeter of house?

This spring our outside stonework & landscaping begins. We have a new house, cottage style, in a rural area. We have talked with a local stone mason who has suggested installing bluestone curbing up against the entire perimeter of our house. I would like to know your thoughts on the purpose and/or benefits of doing this.

I understand the nice, clean look of it. Our house is Hardiplank below, staggered cedar shingles on the 2nd story. We are on a slab, so at the moment, you can see the big concrete area at the base where the Hardiplank ends and the slab goes into the ground. The mason's idea is to put this curbing around the house in order to make the transition to the flagstone paths & porches. What do you all think of this? Is it overkill?

I'm new to this rock stuff, so all opinions welcome!

Thanks much, Sweetpea
