Salvaged Stone Patio

Posted by sara_grow Minnesota (My Page) on

I am have convinced a local developer to give me stone from a old barn that is being demolished. I am not sure what kind of stone it is at this point other then cosmetically it looks great and that there is some mortor that will still be attached that I am not planning on removing at this point. I am not by any means going for perfection here but the stones are 6-8 inches thick. Am I crazy to even consider using this to build a patio? Does anyone have any experience constructing a patio with stone this thick? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sara, Is there any way you could post a picture of the stone? Using stone stone that thick just means a bit more work... LOL. You just need to give it a good bed to go on and may require a lot of tweaking, as the thickness of the stone may vary and you want a level surface to walk on.

Certainly doable if you have a good back. You will need a very deep preparation bed to allow for variability of stone thickness. Advantage is that stone that thick shouldn't move much.
