Paver Edging ?

| I am replacing a walkway and am considering using concrete pavers with the paver edging that is available. I plan on following the recommendations to prepare the base well with compacted crushed stone of 4-6". Is it necessary to have dirt on the outside of the spiked edging to hold the pavers in place? There is currently loose stone in the landscape and that will probably stay. My concern is that without the heavier earth border that during freezing/thawing that we experience here, the edging will shift and thus the pavers. Thoughts? Thanks. |

| I don't have experience in your zone, but even here I don't think I would depend on the edging to hold the pavers in place, although it might depend on how many spikes you use - we only used about one every 8-12 inches. Plus, with just loose stone covering the edging, I suspect it would show, which is not a look I like. |
