detailed instructions for building stone steps

I need to build some stone steps from my back yard up to my driveway along side the garden which is terraced. It is about 10' of rise over 30'of run. I'm looking for detailed instructions on how to build these as I have no experience doing this. I'm thinking of building the rough step out of concrete/block and then using 11/2" thick sandstone as a veneer. I'm looking for a book or website that addresses the actual building not a lot of pictures of pretty steps in gardens.

arrrgg! I just returned a book to the library that had exactly that covered.
I will try to figure out which book it was. You might check out your local library, especially if - like ours - they let you request books from all over the county ONLINE and pick 'em up at your local branch.

Two points I managed to absorb:

Each step is twice as deep as what shows, half of it is burried under the step above it for stability. [DEEP not meaning down into the ground, but depth, front to back, into the slope.]

The steps are not laid completely flat, you slant them
a very tiny bit to the front so water drains off.

I guess I could give you some instructions at how I would do that type of project. I plan to do another stair project this summer myself, about 25' long witha 5.5' rise.

Note, this is not a one weekend, $100 job.

A good place to start is by doing an accurate site map of the area, with all current structrures and grades shown.

Thin stone veneer works well over poured concrete and is not beyond what a good DIY'er can do. A lot of the work is done like the wall project shown in the pages below.

If this is the type of instruction you are looking for, let me know and I will round up some stuff on steps.
