Are these river rocks acid washed or what?

I bought 6-10" river rocks from a landscape supply house. When these rocks are wet, most are dark colored. When they are dry, they are powdery whitish.

I have a wooded lot with a drainage stream that I am restoring. I'm undoing what the builder ruined by lining with rip raf. I don't need any more in the stream. I have a lot left over. I'm afraid to use them in my landscape because of the color. All of the other stones in my wooded landscape are dark. These stones just pop out, visually.

I think the business that sells these river rocks, washes then with an acid that etches them. Is there something I can do to these stones to restore them?

I am not a pro on this, but have done quite a bit of work with river rock or what we also call round cobble rock. In fact I am nearing the completion of a cobble rock lamp post. Once I am finished, I will clean the rocks with muric acid (to clean any remaining mortar on the rocks away), then seal them with a sealer. The sealer will bring out the colors and give the appearance of being wet. After reading several reviews, I chose the Behr high glass sealer.

I think you could use a sealer to give your rocks the same darker effect.
